About Us
Great Falls Montana Tourism is an independent, non-profit Destination Management Organization (DMO) dedicated to growing travel to Great Falls, Montana. Since 2015, we’ve led the community’s promotion through marketing, media, and destination development that attract visitors and support local businesses. We’re funded entirely by travelers who stay fewer than 31 days in local lodging, through a small room assessment (up to $2) and an 8% lodging tax on hotels, motels, short-term rentals, and campgrounds. Although we collaborate with Downtown Great Falls, the City of Great Falls, and the State of Montana, we operate as a separate, independent organization, a distinction that is often misunderstood. In 2025, we also became the management partner for Central Montana Tourism, combining efforts to strengthen regional travel and visibility.

Storylines That Define What Makes Montana's Great Falls...GREAT!
Montana’s Most Underrated Family Basecamp: Great Falls Delivers Big Adventure Without the Crowds
For families craving wide-open Montana adventure without the logistics or price tag of more publicized resort towns, Great Falls is emerging as a smart, low-stress basecamp. Here, kids can watch the Missouri River rush over the city’s namesake falls, explore hands-on exhibits at the Children’s Museum of Montana, and spot wildlife along the River’s Edge Trail — all within minutes of downtown.
With short drive times, approachable outdoor access, and family-friendly lodging and dining, Great Falls offers the kind of multigenerational trip that feels adventurous without feeling overwhelming.
The Montana Trip That Won’t Break the Bank: Why Great Falls Is a Smart Alternative Right Now
As travelers continue to feel price pressure across the Mountain West, Great Falls is quietly standing out as one of Montana’s most budget-friendly entry points. Visitors can access Big Sky landscapes, robust arts and culture, and uncrowded outdoor recreation at a fraction of the cost of more saturated destinations.
From affordable lodging and dining to free and low-cost attractions like the River’s Edge Trail and scenic overlooks of the Missouri River, Great Falls offers strong value without sacrificing the Montana experience travelers are seeking.
Montana Without the Bottlenecks: Great Falls as the Northern Rockies’ Low-Key Adventure Hub
While many Montana destinations are managing record visitation and grappling with over-tourism, Great Falls remains refreshingly accessible for travelers who want immediate proximity to trails, river corridors, and wide-open landscapes without the crowds.
The city anchors more than 60 miles of the River’s Edge Trail, offers quick access to public lands, and serves as a strategic jumping-off point for anglers, cyclists, and wildlife watchers. For anyone tracking the next wave of “uncrowded outdoors,” Great Falls is a compelling, story.
Meet Montana’s Oldest Ski Area — And the Woman Leading Its Next Chapter
In an industry that’s increasingly dominated by major resort operators, Showdown Ski Area stands apart. Located within easy reach of Great Falls, Showdown is Montana’s oldest continuously operating ski area — and notably, the state’s only female-owned ski hill.
The mountain delivers a throwback ski experience: uncrowded runs, approachable terrain, and a deeply loyal community following. Under female ownership, the area is charting a path that blends heritage, independence, and a refreshingly unpretentious approach to winter recreation.
This is a timely story at the intersection of ski culture, women in leadership, and the growing interest in independent mountains.
Beyond Day-Tripping: Why Great Falls Is Worth a Longer Stay
Often experienced as a waypoint, Great Falls is increasingly earning a second look from travelers seeking authentic Montana communities with real cultural depth. Between the C.M. Russell legacy, a growing local food and brewery scene, and riverfront revitalization, the city offers more texture than many expect.
For travelers interested in places that feel lived-in rather than built for tourism, Great Falls delivers a compelling mix of Western heritage, creative energy, and outdoor access — all without the friction of Montana’s busier markets.
