Only in April in Great Falls!
April has gone to the birds – quite literally around here. Aside from the massive migration at Freezeout Lake, a 50-minute drive from Great Falls, Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge has an impressive display of male grouse trying to get the attention of the ladies! Located just a few minutes north of town, the refuge spans more than 12,000 acres and hosts more than 200 species of birds. We chatted with refuge manager Bob Johnson on episode 170 of our podcast We’re No Dam Experts. He’s like our version of Ron Swanson. You can watch and hear the birds during the lek this April!

A 44 year tradition in Great Falls continues at the end of April with the Ice Breaker Road Race! Thousands of runners and walkers will pound the pavement of a 5-mile, 3-mile, or one mile course. Register now for the road race named as one of Runner’s World Magazine’s top 100 in the country!
Great Falls is home to one of just three dirt tracks in the state of Montana! The Electric City Speedway will kick off their 2024 season (weather depending of course) on April 26th and 27th with the Montana Spring Roundup. You can catch races almost every weekend throughout the spring and summer!
Lovers of Corps of Discovery history can support the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and foundation from afar with the 19th Annual Trail Mixer online April 17th-21st. And of course make plans to be in Great Falls in June for the Lewis & Clark Festival!
