Kayak Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana

Only in June in Great Falls!

If Mother Nature had a favorite month in Great Falls, it’d be June. Long days, golden light, and more things to do than you can fit in one weekend—though you’re welcome to try. Looking for the best things to do in Great Falls, Montana this June? You’ve come to the right place.

Beer & History

The annual tradition of Craft Beer Week returns with tap takeovers, dinner pairings, a golf scramble, and of course Montana Brew Fest taking over the streets of Downtown Great Falls. Sample beers, ciders, and seltzers from across the state and drink in summer!

Another annual tradition occupies June. History comes alive at the Lewis & Clark Festival, where you can explore the epic journey that brought the Corps of Discovery right through Great Falls. Fun fact: they spent over a month here—their longest stay outside of winter camp—working their way around all five waterfalls. This festival packs in hands-on exhibits, family-friendly activities, entertainment, and food and craft vendors. It’s part history lesson, part outdoor adventure, and 100% worth the trip.

National Trails Day

National Trails Day is June 7th!  Of course you can run, walk, bike, or hike any of the 53 miles of River’s Edge Trail anytime of year in Great Falls, but there a special opportunity on National Trails Day!  Cochrane Dam will be open to cross, meaning you can get from the north shore to the south shore section of the River’s Edge Trail (or visa versa).  There will also be interpretive “Dam Talks” throughout the day.  Another option on National Trails Day is to head to First People’s Buffalo Jump State Park for a Snake Hike with Dan “The Snake Man!”

Other June Events Only In Great Falls

Great Falls Farmers' Market Great Falls Farmers' Market

Outdoor Markets

It just keeps getting bigger and better every year! More than 160 vendors spread out around the Civic Center downtown and we’re told the Great Falls Farmers’ Market will take up even more space this year. Come for the food, stay for the artisans.

The first Downtown Night Market of the season also happens in June! Browse unique crafts, jewelry, and treats!

Outdoor Concerts

Outdoor concerts kick into full swing in June! That includes the first concert in the Downtown Summer Jam series.  Central Avenue and 5th Street turn into a concert venue as Hayden Coffman takes the stage.

How about some free music?  We’ve got you covered there too.  Our incredible Great Falls Municipal Band performs every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. throughout the summer at the Gibson Park bandshell! Grab a picnic dinner and enjoy the ambience.

Summer Sports

The boys of summer are back at the ballpark!  The Great Falls Voyagers experience, including meeting Orbit the mascot, are a must on your summer trip to Great Falls! You can catch flying dirt throughout the summer at the Electric City Speedway! Our dirt race track is one of just three in the state and hosts races almost every weekend through the end of August!

The Falls

We have not one, but FIVE falls here in Great Falls!  They can be seen any time of year (well, except for the one that’s always submerged), but they look especially great in June. You can always see THE Great Falls from the parking area, but Ryan Island, accessed by walking across a short suspension bridge, provides the best vantage point, along with historical information about both the Corps of Discovery and power from the dam.
