Wylie Gustafson

This is a long one, I can’t resist. Wylie Gustafson has always been a favorite of mine. Real country music with no artificial sweeteners, all cowboy, quirky, and completely in your face, this is Wylie Gustafson. Wylie, a 4th generation Montanan, raised with music surrounding him. On weekends he, along with his parents and 4 siblings would watch the Lawrence Welk show, followed by singing folk and traditional country songs. You might say he got his quirkiness from his Dad, Rib. Rib would sing funny and off beat songs, he would also yodel…..everywhere. Yodel at the top of a mountain, yodel working horses, he would yodel when he was the happiest. Growing up, Wylie would mimic his Dad’s yodels. Fast forward to the 1990’s, playing at a club in Los Angeles, the patrons were restless and distracted. What does a good entertainer do? He does something to grab their attention, in this case you yodel a song. In Wylie’s words “By gosh, they sat down their drinks and they actually listened”. This led to some yodeling for companies like Miller Lite, Taco Bell, Porsche and others. One you may recognize is Yahoo!, which seemed like any other 15 minute session…until 3 years later when we all saw him yodel and jump during the Super Bowl!  And, the rest is history.
