Legendary Motown artists The Temptations stand as one of the greatest vocal groups from music’s golden era. The Temptations are ambassadors of soul, conscience, and style, and they are coming to Great Falls during the 2018 Montana State Fair. Some of the hits you can expect to hear during their live show are My Girl, Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone, Just My Imagination, and Treat Her Like a Lady. But before you experience more than 50 years of hits, 1,000 Adventures await you; how will you create your perfect day in the basecamp?

When you wake, the air will be fresh, warm, and clear, so why not enjoy a stroll through Giant Springs State Park? Home to one of the largest freshwater springs in the country, Giant Springs State Park is Montana’s most visited. Accessible from The River’s Edge Trail, the park boasts views of Black Eagle Falls, a variety of bird life, a fish hatchery, and fishing ponds.

After your trek on the trail, head downtown to grab breakfast at 5th Street Diner. Take a stroll along Central and you’ll find one-of-a-kind boutiques. The 5th Street Diner, inspired by the decor of the 50s and 60s, will take you back to the golden age of music you’ll enjoy later in the evening. The diner serves great food, such as their French toast, and you’ll enjoy the antique toys and posters that adorn the diner. Maybe even enjoy a milkshake with breakfast; my favorite is strawberry!

History buffs find many things to love about Great Falls, and the cornerstone of this adventure is the History Museum. You’ll have a great time exploring this museum that delivers history with personality! Painstaking recreations of buildings including shopping, hotels, and restaurants take you back to the founding of Great Falls, and the dynamic culture that developed from Paris Gibson’s vision. Cornerstone to this museum is the Ozark Club Room, showcasing the jazz history of Great Falls. The Ozark Club was many people’s first exposure to jazz, rock n roll, and Motown music you’ll hear in a few hours.

A cornucopia of architectural styles is found on Great Falls’ historic Lower North Side. Take a leisurely afternoon stroll to see stately Queen Annes, sprawling Colonial Revivals, Tudors, Arts & Crafts, and Prairie homes including the famed CM Russell cabin. The grandest neighborhood in town, the Lower North Side harkens back to the early days in Great Falls when the city was expanding rapidly and bursting with promise. Early home were modest wooden abodes, but the building boom from 1890 to 1893 gave way to the beautiful homes that made the Lower North Side the city’s premier neighborhood. Gibson Park borders the district’s west end and downtown Great Falls; what is your favorite home?

On a summer afternoon, there’s nothing better than a craft cocktail from Enbar. After the walking tour, you’re minutes from enjoying a cocktail under the warm summer sun. With the sun in the West, you’ll have shade to cool off with Enbar’s famous Juniper. Relax with this cocktail as you review your feed for the perfect photo that will make your friends jealous.

No fair experience is complete without a stop (or 2, or 3) to the food court! Relive your fair memories with corn dogs, cotton candy, and the Ferris wheel.

Head inside to enjoy the show!

There are plenty of great options for staying close to the Montana ExpoPark and downtown Great Falls. Check out a list of lodging properties for staying in Montana’s Basecamp that will make your trip memorable.
