Great Falls just welcomed the 24th creative piece of artwork to the trail. Local artist Alex Smithson created the newest sculpture that greets cyclists, walkers, and joggers along the River’s Edge Trail. Located behind the federal building, the Pelican was designed from tool bits, a signature style of Alex’s. Many of his other sculptures can be seen along the trail, making this the perfect spot to immerse yourself in Art & Adventure. The pelican sculpture is a tribute to the diverse species of birds that travel through Great Falls along the North American migratory path. Throughout the year, you see bird species throughout Great Falls, and the River’s Edge Trail is the perfect place to view the spectacular beauty of nature. For an amazing birding adventure, head to Benton Lake Wildlife Refuge, a central spot along the migratory path. Minutes for Great Falls, you will see birds, wildlife, and the majestic Rocky Mountain Front at Freezeout Lake.
