Day 1

Nothing whets your appetite for a quality craft brew like a breathtaking hike under the Big Sky. Begin your first day with a hike in the Bob Marshall Wilderness one hour west of Great Falls. The Bob extends for 60 miles [97 km] along the Continental Divide and is the 5th-largest wilderness complex in the lower 48 states. The highpoint of the Bob is the Chinese wall, an escarpment that averages 1,000 feet [305 meters] from its base and extends for 22 miles [35 km]. With numerous waterfalls, lakes, and dense forests, the wilderness is prime Grizzly bear habitat. The Bob is home to many other large mammals, such as moose, elk, black bear, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, wolverine, mountain lion, lynx, and wolf. The Bob a great spot to hike and enjoy the splendor that is classic Montana. Maps are available from the US Forest Service office or the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation to plan your day hike.

After your adventure in the Bob, stop by Black Eagle Brewery. Located in the historic neighborhood of Black Eagle, this brewery celebrates its blue-collar roots with 6 beers for any taste. Overlooking the Missouri River and offering views of Great Falls, you can unwind and watch the game.

Having spent the day in the famous Montana wilderness, enjoy another pint at The Front Brewing Public House, named to honor the spectacular beauty of the Rocky Mountain Front. Located on the banks of the Missouri, The Front offers a variety of craft brews, but Mountain Man, an award winning Scotch Ale, is by far a local favorite.

Day 2

Begin your second day with a refreshing morning kayak ride. Great Falls Montana provides kayak enthusiasts and beginners an opportunity to experience a great outdoor adventure on the Missouri and Sun Rivers. Winding through the Electric City, the Missouri River is an ideal location to drop a kayak in the water, soak up the sun, and relax under the Big Sky. You can use your own equipment to explore or rent from outfitters in Great Falls. West Bank Landing, Oddfellows Park, and Broadwater Bay offer easy access to the river, and allows you to explore Great Falls at your leisure.

After your kayak adventures, enjoy lunch and a pint at The Mighty Mo Brewing Company. Located in the middle of Downtown, The Mo provides a family-friendly, hip, and vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy pizza, wings, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers to compliment your high quality, flavorful craft beer. After lunch, you’ll be ready for another hike, this time at Memorial Falls. Located 53 miles south of Great Falls, the drive is scenic and easy. 1.6 miles southeast of Neihart on US Highway 89, Memorial Falls is a relaxing 1/2 mile walk to two pristine waterfalls. The hiking trail winds along Belt Creek through towering cliffs and lodge pole trees, providing numerous opportunities for sightseeing and photography along the non-motorized trail. After the upper falls, the trail continues up the creek for about .75 miles and eventually ends. Memorial Falls Trail is an excellent one-hour round-trip hike with a ½ mile walk to two scenic falls.

On the way back to Great Falls, stop at Harvest Moon Brewery in Belt. Known for the pure water from the Madison aquifer, the water is pumped directly from the aquifer without treatment or filtering. You can taste the purity in every pint, and Harvest Moon produces flavorful Montana craft beer. Locals favor the Beltian White, Pigs Ass Porter, and Charlie Russell Red.
